Benadryl Allergy (diphenhydramine) for Allergic Reactions "I have a severe dairy allergy and I have had it for all of my life. My doctor (who has been a doctor for more than 20 years) told me I had the worst case he has ever seen. If I touch it, I break out into hives, if I eat it or just put it in my mouth and then spit it back out, I go into anaphylactic shock. (where my lungs close up and I stop breathing) I always carry around the liquid Benadryl (because it works faster than the pills) in my purse. On many occasions, a double dose of it has saved my life and delayed the reaction from getting worse until I could get to the emergency room. Literally a life saver."

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for Allergic Reactions "I was given Benadryl at the hospital for an allergic reaction. It instantly shot my heart rate up to 217 bpm and instantly my mouth got dry I couldn't swallow my chest felt hot like an elephant was sitting on it and I got really cold. It put me into shock my body wouldn't stop shaking, I could breath. It was so scary I thought I was dead thanks to the doctors quick response he saved me but it almost killed me. "

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for Nausea/Vomiting "ER gave me 25mg diphenhydramine IV for nausea. The only effect was delirium and a brief medication nap. I felt woozy and poisoned for at least two hours afterwards. It may work for others, but it certainly didn't help me."

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for Extrapyramidal Reaction "Diphenhydramine definitely calms down my muscles and helps with any antipsychotic induced akathesia at night. Great for sleep as well and helps me stay in bed in the mornings, but I'm able to get up early if I need to."

ZzzQuil (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "Works great for me and my family. Tired and able to sleep within 30 minutes. I wake up feeling rested. For all those people saying it doesn't work, it just doesn't work for them. I'm sure there isn't a product that exists that works for everyone."

Nytol (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "Absolutely useless - did not help insomnia at all. All I got were nightmares / vivid dreams. Nytol blankly refused to refund cost - their attitude was every one reacts differently. No wonder drug companies make money !"

Nytol (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "Don't use this medicine if you have any history of mental health issues. Took me so long to realise this was making me so mentally ill, I was as close to committing suicide as I ever have been while taking this at a dose of 50mg. Gave me serious shaking leg syndrome bit that I could deal with the next day I was so knocked out I almost didn't feel alive, the worst feeling I have ever had. I am so happy I read about about antihistamines and how they effect the brain they should be illegal. Crazy drug but hay someone's making a profit so oh well !!! P.S this is my experience my mother uses nytol and has no problem with it what so ever so I'm just pointing out to be careful please :)"

My legs started to get really, really hot and felt like I just had to stretch them and run them under freezing cold water, then I woke up with hives all over."

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for Allergic Reactions "My adult size teenage son was given Benadryl IV, 50mg, *along with Compazine IV as a "headache cocktail" in an emergency room in September of 2016. While there is no way to know for certain if Compazine or Benadryl caused the severe reaction he experienced, he has tolerated oral Benadryl just fine in the past. However, it seems important to share our experience based on the severity of his reaction that day and that multiple reports of similar exist. I do not recommend the "headache cocktail" of Benadryl and Compazine together and hope the number of similar reports are looked into."

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for Allergic Reactions "So I've been taking this going on 2 years now, and I regret taking it so long, I even ended up in the ER because my heart wouldn't stop racing it was over 170. I believe it was due to the Benadryl, I ignored the side effect before I noticed sometimes when I took it my heart would beat funny and it would be hard to catch my breathe but I kept taking it as it stopped my itchy throat, eyes, and mouth. Doctors at the ER found arrhythmia but said everything else looked fine. I stopped taking it, haven't take it in a week and I'm still having racing heart and palpations. Don't take this stuff long term. I'm in my early 20s and healthy if any one reading this was curious."

Sominex (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "Works for me in the same manner all the above have stated. Be aware, though, it is intended for occasional use, not nightly use. It's active ingredient is basically Benedryl, the same as in many allergy meds. If you check ingredient labels rather than going by the brand name, you may be able to find a bargain."

Nytol (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "Don’t work at all. Have used ambien and zopiclone in the past to good effect but wanted something more natural but these had no effect whatsoever. Total waste of money and time and now can’t take anything else tonight as this is in my system! Would have been better to take one of the others in the first place."

ZzzQuil (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "I usually work a 10 hr shift in the afternoon but my boss has changed my Saturday shift to 5am-1pm. We live on a farm and have 3 outside dogs that like to bark at night. The first morning shift I only got 2 hrs sleep because of our dogs. I purchased Zzquill to get some help falling asleep the night before my morning shifts. I took the recommended dose (2pills) at 8pm. I went to bed at 8:30. I didn't feel any effect from the medication until almost 10:30!! And then I woke up again at 12:30am! I do not recommend Zzquill if you want to fall asleep quickly and stay asleep."

Nytol (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "Have been taking Nytol for 2 weeks now since severe flu knocked my sleep pattern out, having no effect at all, it is absolute rubbish. Don't make me feel sleepy at all, if anything the opposite - spend many hours awake staring at the clock! Have tried taking one early in the evening and one before bed as advised still doesn't work... Oh and they smell funny and taste even worse, they are going in the bin waste of money."

Sominex (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "Ugh, just no. The first time I tried this tablet, I took a whole one. Did what it said on the tin, and I was knocked out within the hour. I slept for thirteen hours and woke up feeling TERRIBLE. Groggy, dizzy, and as if my limbs were tied down with iron weights. I wanted to cry at the tiniest things and felt bloody awful. Having slept for so long, I couldn't sleep it off. The next night, I took half a pill. In the morning, I didn't have the same grogginess, but I wasn't firing on all cylinders. I was also gripped with horrible anxiety that stayed with me until about 9 pm. I didn't take anything last night, and I feel absolutely fine. I find it difficult to chalk this up to coincidence."

Benadryl Allergy (diphenhydramine) for Allergic Reactions "I have severe allergies and life has been miserable. I couldn't afford the time or money anymore for allergy shots. Claritan stopped working. So did a bunch of over the counter allergy medications. I took so many cough and zinc lozenges my tongue became sore. I coughed all the time, to the point of stomach pain and incontinence. My coworker just gave me a Benadryl. I was on the verge of going home sick, but now I'm 100% better. A stress rash that was erupting on the back of my neck just now went away. This is a marvelous product, and I didn't know it had so many uses."

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for Allergic Reactions "A little known and rare side effect of this drug is a condition that would probably be called idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). This describes a serious depletion of platelets in the blood. The blood will not clot properly and an injury can be life threatening due to uncontrolled bleeding. It's rare but if it happens and the cause is not figured out by your physician(s) this is a big problem."

ZzzQuil (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "Trying to get off enormous amount of THC full CBD which helps sleeps a bit but makes me wonky. So, ZzzQuil. Unbelievably awful, an experience I hope nobody would have. Didn't make me sleepy at all, but the restless legs were absolute torture. Torture. This side effect is not admitted by the manufacturer, but it's so real it's scary."

Nytol (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "Basically Nytol didn't work and had the opposite effect by keeping me awake but I had a weird reaction too as it made me feel fairly sick while I was lying in my bed and that happened both times I took it. So it's into the bin with these tablets. I would be very cautious about taking this product as most of the reviews are bad."

Sominex (diphenhydramine) for Insomnia "As an ex drug addict, I've tried many things to help me sleep that are non prescriptive, promethazine (sominex) does work but the vivid dreams are horrendous, so be ready for wild nightmares, this was a symptom that is very common and does not seem to wear off the more you take, so be warned!"
